Trumpism's most telling and distinctive moments – not its most important, nor cruelest, nor most dangerous, nor most senseless, but perhaps its most illuminating – came earlier this autumn. He has done things 10,000 times as bad – the current estimate of deaths due to his slashing to international aid stands at 600,000 and increasing, and this week a study forecast his fossil fuel policies would cause deaths an additional 1.3 million. However nothing as distinctive. No former leader would have dared – genuinely, no former commander would have conceived – independently wrecking significant portions of the executive mansion to build a Versailles-style party room, with the direct cooperation of multiple the nation's most affluent, nearly all of which have business with the government.

As disorienting as it is to observe the president seek to颠覆 the traditional concept about democracy and exchange it with its polar opposite, there remains a substantial portion of Americans who might not perceive it entirely new. That is those of us – in older age cohorts almost a majority – who were educated as mainline Protestant Christians.
We have observed throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups transformed the Christ we were raised with into exactly the opposite of our perception of his character. A Toxic Christianity Takes Hold

The apparent and clear fact that the Savior from scripture requests a form of radical love centered on the impoverished has consistently rendered the Christian faith something of a scandalous religion: engaging for the general public, but because of its natural unconventionality needing to be contained. During the 1950s it was controlled through watering down – Protestant Christianity was so dominant that it essentially blessed current circumstances.
A Conflict for the Highest of Us
Hence I have become inspired to observe the persistent defiance against Trump emerge during the previous year. It has provided great solace to participate in developing the initiative that has taken to the streets in rally after rally, and seems to have inspired voters to show up in numbers in interim political contests. We must have to persist with it, and in the same spirit, displaying national flags during all protests and requests to the highest qualities in US history.

America is best defended, in other words, by reference to the highest about American history, just as Christianity is optimally secured by reference to what makes it special and wonderful, which is the example of the Savior.
