Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important official stated the attack made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
